British pet shops to be banned from selling puppies and kittens

Pet shops should be prohibited from purchasing kittens and puppies by the government in a crack down targeted toward quitting pup farming.
Third party earnings of cats or dogs under 6 weeks old will probably be prohibited, which means potential buyers will have to deal directly with the breeder or even a licensed rehoming center.
The move, introduced from Department of Environment Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), follows people appointment which saw 95 percent of the populace supported because of such a ban.
It follows new laws, that came in force on 1 October, that prohibited authorized vendors from dealing in dogs and kittens under eight weeks .
Previously this year, a petition backing the Lucy’s Legislation marketing campaign to halt to earnings by thirdparty commercial dealers was signed by 150,000 persons and triggered a debate within parliament.
Defra stated the ban, which will soon be introduced”when parliamentary time allows” into 20-19, could help it become tougher to get”high-volume, low-welfare breeders” to use.
Animal welfare minister David Rutley, that announced the ban on Sunday, paid tribute to the Lucy’s Legislation campaign, expressing the government was devoted to making sure”the country’s much-loved animals get the appropriate start in existence”.
He explained”I urge anybody who is thinking of purchasing a puppy, or any puppy, now of the year to pause and consider thoroughly before doing so.”
Marc Abraham, ” the television vet and creator of Pup assist and the Lucy’s Legislation campaign, claimed it was”a real success for grassroots campaigners as well as the UK’s puppies and dogs”.
Battersea Dogs and Cats Home’s chief executive,” Claire Horton, said:”Properly enforcedthis can help set an limit to dogs being used as breeding machines also retained in shocking problems.

Even the RSPCA’s deputy chief executive,” Chris Wainwright, said:”We feel that cracking back on unscrupulous traders, who put profit ahead of animal welfare, will provide more comprehensive security for future pet owners and animals.
“We’ve always said an end to third party sales alone would not be enough to finish the dog commerce catastrophe and also we have been pleased that this is looked over along side enhanced licensing requirements for both breeders introduced earlier this season .”
