For most of us November that is late marks start of the holiday season while the end of another 12 months. Nonetheless for the office, the end of November marks the beginning of our reading season. It is now time of the year when my colleagues and I begin reading the applications that you all happen working so difficult on over the last month or two. We are really excited to start fulfilling year that is next freshmen class. We get together as an office for an on-campus retreat before we dive into the application pool (pun intended. This year’s retreat took place this and besides overloading on snacks and five pounds of Red Vines (collectively), we spent a lot of quality time discussing the application review process.
The retreat started with a message from our Director of Admission Kirk Brennan about their thoughts that are personal reviewing applications. It was nice and refreshing to listen to that he and We share plenty of the same values in terms of reviewing candidates. Later on into the retreat we were all caught off guard by our Dean of Admission Tim Brunold, when he surprised us having an SAT practice test! Having just examined to take the GRE, I becamen’t as nervous as some of the other users of our staff, but it was still nerve-wracking. This exercise was part of a discussion on standardized test scores and exactly how we use them into the application review process. The part that is final of retreat included the aspects behind the review process. I know that some of you imagined a number of old people sitting around a huge boardroom table examining applications, and that is not the situation. We read your applications online and mostly at our desks that are own. However, we read at home at our dinner tables, on our living room couches or anywhere we are able to be most comfortable.
Over the next months that are few will likely be reading your applications… day in and day out. We shall try to know whom our applicants are so we will ask ourselves tough questions like is USC a fit that is good this student? Nonetheless, most of all, we’ll be advocating for students and creating a diverse, well-rounded freshmen class.
