It took awhile, but the San Diego Padres will finally get to see one of their offseason acquisitions in action.
As the Padres seem to snap a losing streak, more Righthand Garrett Richards will pitch with San Diego on Monday.
Richards, who spent his first eight years with the Angels, going 45-38, 3.66, had Tommy John surgery to fix a torn ulnar collateral ligament last June.
The 31-year-old has worked his own way back. He has pitched in five rehabilitation games with the Padres Rookie along with High-A teams, moving 0-1, 10.61 with 13 strikeouts in 9.1 innings. He walked 11 batters.
Even the Padres’ starting employees could use the boost. San Diego came from a weekend that was horrific in Colorado, providing up 10 or more runs in each game, while the starters combined.
Not a single beginner lasted four innings, along with the turning allowed 16 runs in 9.1 innings for a 15.43 ERA.
Manny Machado struck his 30th home run of the season on the weekend, giving the Padres a set of run players–Hunter Renfroe, with 31 is the other.
Renfroe took batting practice over the weekend and is expected to return from a sprained right ankle that has kept him out over a week.
Despite losing replicate MVP candidate Christian Yelich into some kneecap that is fratured the Brewers are somehow managing to stay afloat in the wild card race.
Milwaukee has won nine of its last 10 to maneuver within a game of the wild card along with three matches of the NL Central lead.
That’s impressive, considering the Brewers were seven games back in the wild card earlier this month, before losing their best player which was.
The Brewers face a constant diet of .500 teams while the Cubs and Cardinals–the two teams before them face off against each other seven days in the following two weeks.
Milwaukee won in spectacular fashion on Sunday, toppling the Central top on a hit by Ryan Braun with two outs in the inning.
The Brewers could be close to obtaining baseman Keston Hiura straight back . After suffering a strained left hamstring, he pinch hit in September.
The Brewers will send Zach Davies (9-7, 3.77) into the mound. Milwaukee has won his last 3 starts, and he’s 3-0, 3.58 in his career against the Padres.
Search to keep their roll.
