Wilfried Zaha continues to demonstrate the same commitment to Crystal Palace since his failed summertime departure, ” says Roy Hodgson.
The 26-year-old winger handed in a transfer request prior to the Premier League transfer window shut, Sky Sports News knows.
Hodgson claims Palace were prepared to allow Zaha to leave however Arsenal and Everton failed to meet the Ivory Coast worldwide’s #80m valuation.
Zaha, who has come through by the academy, has settled any previous discontent with the hierarchy over the transport saga of the club and has played all four of Palace’s Premier League matches to date this season.
“With Wilf, I really don’t think anyone was thinking we definitely need to block him because we need our best player still with us,” Hodgson said.
“We knew that if a very major offer comes his way along with a far bigger team than Crystal Palace need himand he’s desperate to proceed, we are likely to have to attempt to do some sort of deal.
“The unfortunate thing about Wilf is that offer did not come his way out of the kind of club that he would want. I believe they’ve thrashed that side of it and Steve Parish has made it obvious to Wilf out.
“As a result it is not a significant issue for me using Wilf coming back, with accepted the circumstance. Here is just the same as it was. Since the first day he has been mature about it”
Zaha could have become the second high-profile departure at the Eagles in the summer had he Selhurst Park, after Aaron Wan-Bissaka joined Manchester United for 50m.
“It was a very simple case with Aaron Wan-Bissaka,” Hodgson added.
“When it becomes apparent that this deal is dependent upon the table and he wants to go, you react with more experience than you want when you are younger.”
