Lewis Hamilton says he wouldn’t have backed out of his scrap by Charles Leclerc at the GP and the set”would have collided” – if he was not chasing a sixth Formula 1 title.
Hamilton was searching down race-winner Leclerc for much of Grand Prix enthralling and the group went wheel-to-wheel coming the second chicane, but the Mercedes motorist was thrown off the track and had to cut across the area to avoid contact.

An accident could likely have ruined both drivers’ races, and Mercedes manager Toto Wolff maintained that Hamilton”was instrumental in not making it an episode”.
But asked if he would have done anything else when the F1 2019 championship was solved, Hamilton confessed:”I would not have proceeded. We’d have collided.”
As he looks to become only the second driver in history together with six shingles hamilton has been 63 points ahead of nearest challenger Valtteri Bottas with seven races remaining.
“The driver that goes for the Drivers’ Championship stored Charles and rescued himself,” added Wolff, who sensed Leclerc’s moves were”possibly on the line”.
“Lewis knew what he was doing, he did not lose any pieces or parts in that episode, but he could have equally decided,’I’m not going to let it happen’, and place the 2 cars outside.”

Hamilton contested the stewards’ decision not to inflict a brand new punishment on Leclerc and labelled the driving “reckless” on team radio – but insisted that he had no issue with”among the very respectful drivers” at Leclerc.
“There is no lack of admiration,” Hamilton told reporters. “We don’t have a problem, we are not in a struggle, I congratulated him if he got out of the vehicle.
“Charles is among the very respectful motorists. This is the very first time I have gone and using a driver, you understand how they approach scenarios that are various and maybe position your vehicle next time. Perhaps I’ll do a better job next time.”
Hamilton continued:”There is zero issue with people , he did an outstanding job and I don’t have any issue with this, it’s what it is.
“I haven’t talked to him and also we don’t have a problem but if we get a moment together we may chat, only reverse functions and be certain he is cool that when I am in that position and that occurs and that is cool and that’s how we’re rushing.
“From what I understand going into the race you’re supposed to make a difference, I do not know if that is how it is. However, it’s good that we can race hard and today was a battle which is good.
“We’ll continue to race and I’m looking forward to many more races ”

Leclerc was given the black flag by race stewards, F1’s variation of a’yellow card’, and Wolff said he believes that rule is likely to create contact between the drivers”common practice”.
However in regards to penalties and rules while Hamilton called for more consistency, he said he is pleased to race difficult.
“If that is the way we are permitted to race then I will race like this,” he stated. “Provided that we understand that you’re permitted to not leave a car width as an instance, provided that you aren’t contradicting us and there’s a very clear message.
“So you are permitted to run broad even if a person is there and you only get a warning sign, and you simply need that once to potentially keep the man behind you.
“As long since it’s clear that that’s the way moving ahead it’s ok so I know how to enter battle and it is the same for all of the motorists.”
