Lewis Hamilton says title chase stopped Charles Leclerc collision

Lewis Hamilton says he wouldn’t have backed from his scrap with Charles Leclerc at the GP and the pair”would have collided” – when he was not pursuing a sixth Formula 1 title.
Hamilton was searching down race-winner Leclerc for much of Grand Prix enthralling and the group went wheel-to-wheel approaching the chicane, but the Mercedes driver was thrown off the trail and needed to cut to avoid contact.
Hamilton questions Leclerc judgment
FIA describe Leclerc’yellow card’
A crash could probably have destroyed both drivers’ races, and Mercedes manager Toto Wolff asserted that Hamilton”was instrumental in not making it an episode”.
But asked if he would have done anything differently when the F1 2019 championship was solved, Hamilton confessed:”I wouldn’t have proceeded. We’d have collided.”
As he looks to become the second driver in history with six shingles, hamilton has been 63 points ahead of nearest challenger Valtteri Bottas remaining.
“The driver that goes for the Drivers’ Championship stored Charles and saved himself,” added Wolff, who believed Leclerc’s moves were”possibly over the line”.
“Lewis knew what he was doing, he didn’t lose any bits or components in that incident, but he could have equally determined,’I’m not going to let this happen’, and set the two cars out.”
Hamilton looking forward to more battles that are Leclerc
Hamilton contested the stewards’ decision not to inflict a harsher punishment on Leclerc and branded the driving because”dangerous” on team radio – but later insisted that he had no issue with”one of the very respectful drivers” in Leclerc.
“There is no absence of respect,” Hamilton told reporters. “We do not have a problem, we are not in a struggle, I congratulated him if he got out of the automobile.
“Charles is among the very respectful drivers. This is actually the very first time I have gone wheel-to-wheel together with him, and with a driver, you understand how they position your vehicle next time and possibly approach various situations. Maybe I will do a much better job next time.”
Hamilton continued:”There’s zero problem with us, he did an exceptional job and I don’t have any problem with this, it’s what it really is.
“I haven’t spoken to him and also we don’t have a problem but when we get an instant together we might talk, just reverse functions and be certain he is cool that if I am able and that occurs and that is cool and that is how we’re racing.
“From what I know entering the race you’re supposed to make a gap, now I do not know whether that’s the case. But it’s good that we can race and now proved to be.
“We’ll continue to race and I am looking forward to many more races ”
Hamilton happy to’race like that’
Leclerc was handed the black-and-white flag by race stewards, F1’s version of a’yellow card’, and Wolff said he believes that rule is likely to create contact between the motorists”common practice”.
But while Hamilton called for greater consistency in regards to penalties and rules, he said he’s happy to race difficult.
“If that is the way we’re allowed to race then I will race like that,” he stated. “Provided that we understand that you are permitted to not leave a car width for example, provided that you aren’t contradicting us and there is a clear message.
“So you’re allowed to run wide even if a person is there and you simply receive a warning sign, and you only need that once to potentially maintain the man behind you.
“As long as it is clear that that’s how moving ahead it is ok so I know how to go into battle and it is the exact same for all of the motorists.”
