David Gough felt no pressure while refereeing All-Ireland final

David Gough, who refereed the drawn All-Ireland final, says when officiating the game of this year, he felt no pressure.
Much of the focus in the build-up into the match was on the collection of Meath native Gough, using a few pundits suggesting as he’s based in Dublin he shouldn’t have been appointed.
However, when 3:30pm September 1 came, he felt no stress at all.
“It’s actually any other match,” Gough told The Six O’Clock Show.
“I’d spent the week ahead with a sports psychologist who had prepared me for this moment. He made it.
“[The GAA] have contributed referees access to sports psychologists in the previous few years. It is huge for us that we’re in a position to go and visualise things in games that will help us prepare for the sport. We really do want it, and it is a wonderful tool to have in our pockets.
“I simply could not wait to get onto the pitch and then toss up the ball. Everything else just fades into the background. The sound in the stadium, the capacity, you do not detect anything around it. You’ve 70 to 80 minutes of concentration. You see numbers, colours, jerseys. You do not even recognise the gamers, so that I didn’t feel any pressure going whatsoever.”
The common consensus following the match was so that he made the right calls for the huge decisions, but Gough made it obvious he does not pay attention to the opinions of anybody.
He explained:”I do not hear any of this analysis. I don’t wait back the match with any analysts’ comment. I watch back the match myself, along with my microphone played over it that is given to us by Croke Park. So I do not get caught up in any of the comment.
“It’s really nice for me personally to be able to sit and watch a match and focus on everything I did and what I performed, how I talked to the players and how they spoke to me.”
Cork’s Conor Lane will take charge of the replay on Saturday.
